Mumbai, May 7: Recently, Apple cancelled its optimistic car project and reportedly shut down its production. Apple car project was started in 2020 with a promise of developing a driverless vehicle for customers. However, the Apple’s car project was cancelled as the tech giant believed it could offer shallow margin. It was a disappointing for some brand enthusiasts who hoped to see an Apple self-driving car. However, it might not be over. According to a report, Apple is considering partnering with US-based EV maker Rivian, which is likely to work on an electric vehicle.

According to a report by 9to5Mac, Apple has been assessing the possibility of partnering with the US-based EV startup for an undisclosed purpose, and Rivian would most likely be on the list. If this is true, then the tech giant would still be considering to introduce its own autonomous electric vehicles sometime in the future. The report credited that it was first reported by DigiTimes Asia about the speculation among the supply chains. Cybertruck Foundation Series Update: Elon Musk’s Tesla Launches Two New Options for Its Limitation Edition EV Truck Models; Know More Details.

Apple’s self-driving car project was called “Project Titan,” which ended in February 2024. The reports said that Apple car project failed because it was proven too difficult for the company to develop a software and algorithms that could offer autonomous driving features.  According to the report by 9to5Mac, based on the supply chain resources, Rivian would be the most eligible company for Apple to collaborate. The report said that it was unclear about the nature of collaboration between Apple and Rivian. 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift India Launch This Week; Here’s Everything You Need To Know.

Apple and Rivian could partner on multiple aspects; however,  no confirmed judgment should be passed at such an early stage. In 2024, Rivian started laying off employees and shutting down its production to reduce costs. The competition in the global EV market is also very severe as BYD Auto and Tesla lead the market. However, we can assume that just like the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan was launched in China, Apple might follow the same steps with its first car. The Apple-Rivian collaboration could also be about Apple products or software used in upcoming Rivian EV models. It would be worth waiting until Rivian or Apple confirm their partnership.
