By default, Steam’s recommendations include games from all genres, which can make them less relevant and personalized. However, I’ve found that hiding certain genres on Steam has significantly improved my recommendations. Here’s how this can be helpful.

How to Hide Certain Genres on Steam

With thousands of games available, finding the best Steam has to offer can be overwhelming. While Steam’s recommendations can be helpful, hiding unwanted genres is an excellent way to refine those recommendations and narrow down the selection.

To achieve this, I’ve customized my store preferences to hide specific genres or tags, effectively making the recommendations more personalized and efficient. To do the same, you can follow these steps:

1. Open the Steam client on your PC.
2. Click the profile icon in the top-right corner and select Store preferences from the menu.
3. Scroll down to the Tags to Exclude section and type the name of the genre or tag you want to hide.
4. Steam will provide suggestions as you type. Select the appropriate tag to add it to your exclusion list.

You can repeat the steps above to add more tags. If you accidentally add the wrong tag or change your mind, simply click the X next to the tag you want to remove. On the same page, you can also customize other aspects of your Steam experience, such as hiding games in Early Access or choosing to only display products available in your preferred language.

Furthermore, you can add games from your favorite genres to your Steam wishlist. Doing so will enhance your Steam recommendations by encouraging the platform to suggest more games from those specific genres.
