About the Seminar
On 1 July 2024, India witnessed a landmark shift in its criminal justice framework with the enforcement of three new legislations: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA). These statutes replaced the colonial-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act, which had governed the system for more than a century.
The reform initiative was designed with the objectives of modernization, digital integration, victim-centric justice, and enhanced procedural efficiency, thereby aligning the criminal law framework with contemporary societal needs and constitutional values.
